At a high level, the UAB sits on the client machine and is responsible for detecting, downloading, and installing application updates. Similar to ClickOnce, the UAB is driven by a manifest file that contains an application s dependencies (binaries, resources, and so on). When an application is installed on a client s machine, the UAB manifest is also installed along with the UAB. The UAB looks at the manifest file on the local machine and compares it to the manifest on the server to determine whether an update is available. When it detects an update, the UAB can perform one of two tasks: Notify the application that an update is available, via an event-based notification system, and subsequently download and install the update.7 Download the update and install it silently; the client will see the new version the next time the application is launched.
